SLink3 for FlexMax demo

An interactive demonstration spreadsheet utilizing the SLink3 serial communication protocol and the Sieiodev.dll OLE Automation interface for FlexMax drives. The demo assumes motor and drive are already setup for safe operation (in any mode), and the host PC is properly connected to the drive RS485 port with the PCI-485 adapter in place. The demo saves applicable parameters from the drive, places the drive in "Position mode", and allows you to make simple moves using the spreadsheet for input. When you "Stop" the demo, it restores the original parameters to the drive.

The demo setup files are organized into three setup "disks". To download, right-click on the desired file, and choose "Save As" from the pop-up menu. Unzip each of the three files into separate folders or disks. FOLLOW THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY to avoid problems. Installation instructions in a Microsoft Word® document are contained in the "Disk 2" zipped file.

To download, right-click (Internet Explorer) on the desired file, and choose "Save Target As" from the pop-up menu. To view documents, simply click on the desired file.

    SETUP INFORMATION FOR SIEIODEV DEMONSTRATION USING MICROSOFT EXCEL VERSION at least 7.0 WITH WINDOWS 98/2000


    1 - Install the "Sieiodev Demo for Microsoft Excel" worksheet and files first
      a) GO TO C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM AND COPY MFC42.DLL TO C:\WINDOWS. YOU WILL USE THIS LATER.
      b) Place Setup Disk #1 in the floppy drive A:
      c) From the Start menu select run, then type a:\setup and press Enter
      d) The setup program looks at your disk and decides which files to install. You may or may not be prompted to use Setup Disk #2.
      e) Follow the onscreen instructions.
      f) DO NOT CHANGE THE DEFAULT INSTALLATION FOLDER:
        "C:\Program Files\siei".
      g) DO NOT RUN THE DEMONSTRATION AT THIS TIME. YOU MUST INSTALL THE SIEIODEV.DLL OLE AUTOMATION SERVER AS DESCRIBED IN THE NEXT SECTION.
      h) Copy the file "SIEIDEMO.XLS" from Setup Disk #2 to
        C:\program files\siei
      This will replace the SIEIDEMO.XLS that is there already.

    2 - Install the "Sieiodev.dll" OLE Automation Server library
      a) Place the Setup Disk #3 in the floppy drive A:
      b) From the start menu select run, then type a:\setup & press Enter.
      c) Follow the onscreen instructions. Select "Typical" installation.
      d) DO NOT CHANGE THE DEFAULT INSTALLATION FOLDER:
        "C:\Program Files\siei"
      e) After the .dll installation is finished, go to Setup Disk #2 again and copy "SIEODEV.DLL" to C:\Program Files\siei. Windows will ask if you want to replace the existing file and answer "yes". Additionally, copy SIEIODEV.DLL to C:\windows\system.

    3- Install Configuration files for demo worksheet
      a) First, open windows explorer and go to Windows\system\mfc42.dll and check the date and size of the file. If the date is 9/16/97 and has a file size of 74kb, then complete the steps below to replace the file with the version you saved in Step 1a above. If the version you have is later in date and larger is size, then go directly to b) below.

        TO REPLACE MFC42.DLL: Go to Dos mode from windows and type the following:
          copy C:\windows\mfc42.dll C:\windows\system
        You will get a message from windows asking if you want to overwrite the file. Answer "yes". Your system MAY say that windows cannot do this. If this is the case, it will be necessary to type exit (return) to get back to windows, then go to "Start", choose "Restart in Dos Mode" and repeat the above instructions. When the file has been overwritten, then type "exit" and you will be back in Windows.

      b) Copy "Xls_ptdemo.cnf" from Setup Disk #2 and paste it to C:\Windows

    4 - Run the demonstration worksheet.
      a) From the Start menu select Programs. Then select SIEIODEV Excel Demo. If Microsoft Excel version 7.0 or higher is loaded on your system, Excel will automatically start and load the SIEIODEV demonstration worksheet.
      b) Power-up the FlexMax drive and properly connect the RS485 port to COM1 on your PC. If you use a different COM port, you must edit the "Xls_ptdemo.cnf" configuration file with the correct port.
      c) Click the "Start Demo" button, and you should be communicating with the drive. The demo saves any drive parameters that it overwrites, and restores them to the drive when you press the "Stop Demo" button.
